The epicentre of New York life is Manhattan Island, an absorbing city-within-a-city, full of variety and excitement. Amongst the bedlam of Central Park, the Hudson River and Long Island offer a sanctuary from the absorbing 24-hour mayhem.

Where do you begin in a city, when even having breakfast in a deli is considered an experience? A trip to the potent symbol of New York and America in general - the Statue of Liberty - is a start followed by a blast of icy cold air on top of the Empire State Building. Burn off some energy or take a horse and carriage ride in Central Park and wander back towards downtown as you window shop along Fifth Avenue. Listen to the shouts of "buy, buy, buy, sell, sell, sell" and watch the furious action as billions of dollars in shares are traded every day from the public viewing gallery in the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street. 

'Hang out' in Greenwich Village and track down rarities in the record shops and bookstores. Make your way on to the Brooklyn Bridge for an unforgettable view of the Manhattan skyline or take a ride on the Staten Island ferry for one of New York's best sight seeing bargains. Go ice skating at the Rockefeller Center or Central Park or take in a show along Broadway. Visit Macy's, take the subway, catch a cab. Everything in New York seems worth doing, but whatever you decide, the basic Manhattan message is to DO IT NOW!
